CURIOSITY LAB_14 is a program that aims to provide a space for artistic and creative exchange between UNDER THE MANGO TREE, and Berliners, not only from Schöneberg but also from all possible other districts of Berlin. With the monthly rhythm of these sessions, we aim to create a framework that supports neighborly relationships and, at the same time, foster understanding and trust in the stories of „others“ and promotes mutual exchange.

For the first event in this series, join us for a special vinyl listening session of Kadahin Milandaasin, the critically acclaimed album by Indian drummer-composer Tarun Balani. Described by The Hindu newspaper as “a sonic love letter to Sindh,” this deeply personal work has been featured on NPR Music, JazzTimes and Bandcamp’s Best of Jazz.

Through powerful sonic storytelling, the album reflects themes of ancestral memory, migration, and personal identity, drawing inspiration from the life and legacy of Balani’s late grandfather, K.S. Balani—a celebrated postmodern Sindhi writer and painter.

The session features a full vinyl playback of the album, followed by a conversation with the artist, offering rare insight into the stories, sounds, and cultural heritage that shaped the music.

Tarun Balani is an artist, musician, and educator who crafts immersive sonic experiences in both his live performances and recordings. His creative practice lies at the intersection of improvisation, composition, performance, and technology.

Sigrid Pfeffer, a sound technician with the Hessischer Rundfunk, Frankfurt, and has been active in the independent music scene in India. She co-curated the „Mother India“ festival at the House of Cultures of the World in Berlin and has created several other programs on Indian music, including Blue Notes of Bombay on the early history of jazz in India.
