Introduction
Amit Pasricha – Shape Of Time
The Present always has traces of the past. And its transition to a moment in the future depends on how the play moves on now. The spaces created in the imagination of the time are only in a state of impermanence and in this impermanence, there is an expanse for dreaming and for new creations. For the poetics of Space.
Amit Pasricha´s enthusiasm to record the time is not only connected to his passion for the frame; the explicit illustrations of increasingly close relationship between documentation, investigation and aesthetics of space, inseparable in reality and time are conscious artistic strategies applied to capture the images in their authenticity. In far-off ruins and forgotten villages, the chant of an ancient sacred rhythm plays on. Down holy rivers , wide sea and the empty boats, the deep timbre of a chant freezes on the air. So as the present fades into past all may be restored for the posterity.
Interesting to observe in his work is the space between the subject and the viewer where the drama of life unfolds itself. Be it a landscape from Rajasthan, Kashmir or a home in Gujarat, there seems to be an acceptance of the other in the framework of their intimate surroundings. As a panoramist, he takes in available details into his pictures so that the viewer is drawn into the lives of the portraits, arriving at an imagined understanding of their relationships with each other and the depth of their feeling for their living space.
The exhibition in its temporary framework opens the viewer an opportunity to gather intricate details moving from image to image; as many necessary to tell a story ever after.
Amit Pasricha destined to pursue photography, comes from a creative family of photographers. His grandfather did hand painted photographs of the Maharajas and the tradition was passed on to his father, who took up dance and music as his photographic specialty. Amit always had a keen eye and his love for photography started with the first panoramic picture he took in school. After this, he began calling himself a ‘Panoramist’. He attended Maine Photographic workshops and studied with Bill Allard, Jody Cobb, Steve McCurry, Mary Ellen. India’s foremost panoramic photographer, he is well known for his architectural and social documentary work and has been exhibited in India, Berlin, London and New York. He is winner of the Indian Tourism Award 2008. His Book Spiritual India won the German silver prize in 2014.
