About the Evening

A short documentary film produced by Anitha N.Reddy puts light on the life and work of Siddi women working in their own trusted spaces and reveals on how investing in trust and belief plays an important role in creative forms of economic independence for women who contribute to care- work. It follows with an in person discussion with the art-historian, curator Anitha N.Reddy and Dr. Mrinal Pande. The afternoon will end with a small reception.

Anitha N. Reddy is a dynamic community-based textile art practitioner, curator, and dedicated researcher from Bangalore, Karnataka. Her journey has been an inspiring exploration of merging artistic expression with social empowerment. Her educational background is the foundation upon which she’s built her impactful career, overcoming societal constraints to embrace the fringes of society, and channeling artistic expression to empower marginalized individuals. Anitha N Reddy’s impact is far-reaching, culminating in accolades like the Karun Thakar Project Grant, 2022-23, instituted by the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. 

Dr. Mrinal Pande is an independant researcher based in Berlin. Trained as an anthropologist, she has been a part of the DFG-funded Excellence Cluster, `Religion and Politics`and SFB`Cultures of Decision-making´. Her published works engage with religious transformations, diaspora, politics, narratives and media representations.
