En_ Bartholomew is an orphan boy from Bombay, at least twelve years old and he speaks almost as many languages.The German Schlagintweit brothers, who set off on the largest research expedition of their time in 1854 with Humboldt’s support, hired him as translators for their journey through India and the Himalayas. Bartholomäus follows them, fascinated but suspicious: Why are three Germans surveying the country, collecting countless objects, venturing into the unknown high mountains, risking their lives? It’s his home after all – and he wants to be the man who found India’s first museum.

De_ Bartholomäus ist ein Waisenjunge aus Bombay, mindestens zwölf Jahre alt und er spricht fast ebenso viele Sprachen. Daher engagieren ihn die deutschen Brüder Schlagintweit, die 1854 mit Unterstützung Humboldts zur größten Forschungsexpedition ihrer Zeit aufbrechen, als Übersetzer für ihre Reise durch Indien und den Himalaya. Bartholomäus folgt ihnen fasziniert, aber misstrauisch: Warum vermessen ausgerechnet drei Deutsche das Land, sammeln unzählige Objekte, wagen sich ins unbekannte Hochgebirge, riskieren ihr Leben? Es ist doch seine Heimat – und er will der Mann werden, der das erste Museum Indiens gründet.

It invites a discussion on how and why one does and talk about the other – which source does it come from? How can we contribute positively to a change of understanding the other?
